Setúbal bloggers e amigos - vamos celebrar o aniversário de Nancy White,  blogista activista de Seattle, que está em Setúbal neste dia  (proximo domingo - dia 15 de Abril).  Em principio vai ser às 8 horas no restaurante "Champanheria", Avenida Luisa Todi, mas o local ainda está por confirmar.

It's Nancy White's birthday next Sunday (15th April) and she's going to be in Setúbal, Portugal. Hooray!

So that night we'll have a Setúbal-Seattle bloggers + friends dinner-number-four.

The plan is to feast at Champanheria, Av. Luisa Todi, where they have scrummy coconut ice-cream and chocolate - for desert, that is. I'm not sure it's open on Sundays, so stay tuned for confirmation of the venue.

There are still some drawings left, if you're quick. Not many of women in batas, but some spot-on ones of tourists in Portugal. Pink for Germans and red for Brits.

Mini Setúbal blogger's jantar

The totally shameless Lucy of Blogzira, who takes the piss out of all things Portuguese and foreigners in Portugal, but who is loved and supported nevertheless by everyone (who isn't a tia) has an exhibition of her watercolours in the restaurant Pé de Vinho em Azeitão (tel: 212 188 048)

Some of us in SetúbalNow will have dinner there at 8 o'clock tomorrow (Thursday, 23rd November) if you want to join us. If Lucy finds someone to babysittar, then she'll join us maybe for coffee.

Directions: take the N10 from Setúbal to Azeitão. Just before you come to the Palácio on your right is the Rua dos Trabalhadores da Empresa Setubalense. You will see the Bombeiros on the left. It's nº 10 on rua dos Trabalhadores (on the right).

Blog walk - Setúbal Now!

Bom, o próximo encontro dos bloggers Setubalenses vai ser um passeio no aqueduto de Setúbal organizado pelo João Aldeia do blog Setúbal.

A caminhada vai começar no Jardim da Algodeia, às 9:00, junto aos arcos. Seguimos depois pela estrada das Machadas de Cima, sempre junto ao aqueduto, até ao seu início, já na serra; daí descemos para S. Paulo, onde temos duas hipóteses para "acampamento": ou no Parque de Merendas, ou mesmo junto ao Convento de S.Paulo...

É as nove horas no Domingo dia 19 de Novembro - com ou sem chuva! Espero que estejas lá.

Getting people out of the restaurant was tough!  Setúbal bloggers jantar was a great evening, a bit squashed with twenty-one and some halves of us.  Next plan - a blog walk, we've got some Setúbal business to attend to!

Just no privacy these days

There may be privacy issues about taking photos and putting them in flickr, but that's nothing compared to going to my bank.

I was there yesterday (CGD) with my son yesterday opening an account for him as he has just turned eighteen. I've been a customer there for eight years.

We didn't fit into any of the boxes we needed to complete to open an account. Even his name, with its total of ten letters, looked lost in the splendidly long space for Portuguese names.

One problem was the title of my Masters degree - and yes, they did need to know that for his account - which did not fit in any category. I described the disciplines in Development Studies, which I completed over twenty years ago, and cutomers looked on as bank employees decided if it was more accurate to say it was a Masters in Sociology or in Economics.

Everyone in Faralhão (a suburb of Setúbal) now knows the name of my adopted son's father, which we had forgotten and had to look up; they know the name of his mother, and why he was adopted by me. An women in the queue gave me an affectionate squeeze and people looked at me kindly.

An hour and a half later, lots of help and suggestions from bank employees and customers we were able to complete all the forms. Decisions that arose from our confused types and numbers of identity documents were taken by all.

So now, what with one thing or another, my photos in flickr and my life story in Faralhão, I think I've got nothing left to hide.
