Writing as a social event

I'm in Porto - that place you're bound to get lost if you're driving  - where we are going to do a two day writing session at a workshop we called CIBlend. What a treat! Ten of us from Australia, UK, Portugal, who have never written together before and our plan is to write an article(s) for the Community Informatics journal.

Real collaborative writing is an intimate act and also with a lot of tensions. I'm intrigued to see how this goes.

Umm, what could be in that bag Patricia has under her arm at a conference on Social and Human Ideas for Technology (SHiFT)?

A clue: SHiFT organisers and helpers were fantastically cool, smiling and efficient. They ran round after everyone - including people like me who had run out of dog food, and worried about not getting to the shop on time.

Social interaction - new forms

So a friend from my most important online community comes to Setúbal. He's travelling between Tanzania, the Alentejo and Switzerland and we meet up face-to-face.

We have a lot to say to each other. Really!
